Men's Golf Team Tied For Third Place At GADO North Texas Classic

Guadalajara, Mexico - The University of Houston men's golf team is tied for third place through the first two rounds of the GADO North Texas Classic on Sunday on the 6,900-yard course at the El Palomar Country Club.

Junior Jordan Irwin, who had the second -best individual score of one over par 145, paced the Cougars. Irwin began the first day of the tournament shooting a four-over par 76 in the first round Sunday morning. He rebounded in the afternoon round with a three-under par score 69.

Seniors Ricky Romano and Pablo Acuna also finished among the top eight individuals in the tournament. Romano is tied with Iowa State's Cameron White for sixth place with a four-over par total of 148. Acuna is in a six-way tie for eighth place, one shot back.

Romano opened the tournament with a first-round score of three over par and shot one over in the second round. Acuna had a four-over par score of 76 in the first round and also shot one over in the second round.

Freshman Jackie Lindsey is tied for 33rd place with a two-round score of 157, while sophomore Todd Bissenden is tied for 41st place at 161.

The Cougars enter the third round of the tournament tied with Louisiana-Lafayette for third place with a two-round, team score of 599. They are one shot back of Middle Tennessee State and seven shots back of the team leader, Indiana, who finished the second round with a score of 592.

Indiana's Jorge Campillo is the individual leader with a two-round score of three-under-par 141, and enters Monday's final round with a four-shot lead over Irwin.
