Men's Golf Team Opens Spring Schedule Winning GADO North Texas Classic

Guadalajara, Mexico - The University of Houston men's golf team overcame a seven stoke deficit with the second-best team score in the third round to finish in a first-place tie with Indiana University at the GADO North Texas Classic on the 6,900-yard course at the El Palomar Country Club.

Playing in their first tournament of the spring season, the Cougars turned in a third-round score of 297 to move up two spots and finish the tournament with a team score of 896. Houston tied the Hoosiers, who had a score of 304 in the third round.

Louisiana-Lafayette, who entered the final round tied with Houston, finished in third place with a team score of 897, and Middle Tennessee State finished in fourth place with a score of 898.

Cal State-Northridge had the best team score in the third round with 295, and ended the tournament in fifth place with a team score of 899.

Junior Jordan Irwin tied Indiana's Jorge Campillo for individual medallist honors after firing back-to-back three-under par scores of 69 in the final two rounds. Both players finished the tournament two-under par, with scores of 214.

Aaron Hobbs of Cal State-Northridge finished in third place with a score of 219, and Anthony Broussard of North Texas was fourth with a score of 221.

Pablo Acuna and Jackie Lindsey both shot three-over-par during the final round, while Ricky Romano finished the third round six over par.

Houston's Pablo Acuna finished the tournament in eighth place with a score of seven-over-par, 223 after shooting three-over par in the final round. Ricky Romano tied for 17th place in the tournament with a three-round total of 227 after he shot six over par on Monday. Jackie Lindsey was five shots back for 28th place in the individual standings after shooting three-over-par in the third round.

 

 

Todd Bissenden shot 11 over during the third round to finish the tournament in 43rd place with a three-day total of 244.
