SPRING, Texas – The University of Houston Men’s Golf program posted a team score of 357 to defeat Minnesota in a single round of stroke play on Saturday afternoon at Augusta Pines Golf Club.

Minnesota posted a team score of 382 on the 7,041-yard, par-72 layout in the recent addition to the Cougars’ spring schedule.

Houston junior Matt Williams fired a 4-under 68 in Saturday’s round to lead all players and finished two strokes in front of teammate Zach Tracy. Six Cougars finished among the round’s top-seven leaders.

Senior and 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships medalist Michael Perras finished third at even-par 72, while freshman Alexander Frances joined freshman Andrew Gibson – who was making his collegiate debut – and Minnesota’s Runar Arnorsson in a tie for fourth at 73.

Sophomore Bryce Beshoory finished seventh at 74, while senior and 2017 All-American Athletic Conference performer Papito Gonzalez finished 10th at 76. Making his season debut, sophomore Sam Elkington finished 16th at 83.

Saturday’s play featured 6-man lineups with the low five counting toward the team score.
