HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team stood in a tie for third place with a two-round score of 593 after the first day of the All-American Intercollegiate at Cypresswood Golf Club.

The Cougars were tied with Lamar through the first 36 holes and stood only six strokes behind first-day leader UALR, which finished at 587. Baylor stood in second place at 592 after competition on the 7,200-yard, par-72 course.

The 54-hole event wraps up beginning at 8 a.m., Tuesday.

Individually, junior Ben Moser was tied for third after shooting an even-par 144, including a 1-under par 71 during the afternoon round Monday.

UALR's Brian Whittle held the first-day individual lead after posting a 6-under-par 138. New Mexico State's Trais Reid was only a stroke behind and joined Whittle as the only golfers with a sub-par total after the first day.

Moser joined Texas Southern's Jacon Scriven, Jacksonville State's Julian Colmenares and Lamar's Russell Henson in a tie for third place.

Other Cougars in action were sophomore Jackie Lindsey (149, t-19th), senior Jordan Irwin (152, t-32nd), freshman Trevor Edwards (154, t-43rd) and junior Steven Frazier (155, t-51st). Junior Brady Shivers (150, t-24th) and junior Ashish Patel (174, 67th) competed as individuals.
