Golf in 15th Place at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. - The University of Houston golf team stood in 15th place after the first round of the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club before intermittent thunderstorms halted the rest of Monday's action. Fixed tee times will be used - according to the scores from the first round - for round two on Tuesday, which is slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. The Cougars fired a team score of 308 during the first 18 holes Monday to stand 24 strokes behind Tulsa. SMU was second after the first day at 287, while Kent State (291), Kansas (292), Missouri (292), Louisville (292), Texas State (293), North Texas (294) and Arkansas State (298) rounded out the Top 10 team leaders. Individually, sophomore Ricky Romano, who was named to the 204 Conference USA All-Freshmen Team, led the Cougars with a score of 2-over-par 74 to stand in a tie for 29th place. Other Cougars in action Monday were Pablo Acuna (76, t-49th), Zach Mowbray (78, t-63rd) and Jordan Irwin and Kevin Newman, both of whom tied for 74th place with 80s. Missouri's Ben Scott grabbed the individual first-round lead after shooting a 68. Tyler Docking (Kansas), Anthony Broussard (North Texas) and Ryan Yip (Kent State) tied for second with scores of 69. )
