Golf Moves Up to 10th Place at Louisiana Classics

HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team rebounded during the second and final round of the Louisiana Classics on Tuesday to move into 10th place in the final team standings. After shooting a team score of 308 in Monday's first round, the Cougars rallied and fired a team score of 296, the fifth-best score during the final 18 holes. UH finished with a 36-hole score of 604 to tie with North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after rain cancelled the second round on Monday. SMU won the team championship with a score of 582, while Tulsa and Kent State finished a stroke back. Kansas (586), Louisville (586), Texas Tech (592), Texas State (598), Southeastern Louisiana (600) and Missouri (601) rounded out the Top Nine leaders. Individually, Louisville's Daryl Fathauer won medallist honors after shooting a 69 Tuesday and finishing at 4-under-par 140. Kansas' Tyler Docking and SMU's Dan Kleckner tied for second at 2-under-par 142. The Cougars were led by sophomore Ricky Romano and junior Zach Mowbray, who tied for 33rd at 6-over-par 150. Mowbray shot the Cougars' best round of the tournament with an even-par 72 in Tuesday's final round.. Other Cougars in action were: Pablo Acuna (76-75 - 151; T-38th); Jordan Irwin (80-74 - 154; t-49th) and Kevin Newman (80-75 - 155; t-56th). The Cougars continue a busy month when they compete at the Palmetto Invitational, beginning Monday at Palmetto Country Club in Aiken S.C.
