Border Olympics Day One Results in PDF Format Get Acrobat Reader

LAREDO, Texas -- The University of Houston golf team wrapped up the opening day of competition at the 2009 Border Olympics, battling the cold to fire back-to-back 309s during the first two rounds of play. The 16-team tournament is being played at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.

Baylor stands atop the leaderboard heading into play on Saturday after firing a 3-over-par 579. Louisville is in second six strokes behind, while Arkansas rounds out the top three eight strokes behind the first place Bears.

Junior Jackie Lindsey was the Cougars' top finisher, carding a first round 75 and an even par 72 in the second round to finish the day in a tie for 15th with a 3-over-par 147.

Senior co-captain Ben Moser fired back-to-back 78s to finish with a 156, while fellow senior captain Brady Shivers finished one stroke behind with a combined 157.

Competing as a medalist, sophomore Matt Eschenburg finished the opening two rounds in a tie for 30th after shooting a 5-over-par 149.

Louisville's Adam Hadwin stands atop the individual leaderboard 6-under-par, carding a first round 70 to go with a 4-under-par 68 in the second round. Rounding out the top three are UTA's Bobby Massa (-5) and Arkansas' Ethan Tracy (-2).

Competition at the Border Olympics will come to a close with the final 18 holes on Saturday with an 8:45 a.m. tee off. The Cougars will be paired with New Mexico State and Conference USA-rival Rice.
