Golf Finishes Ninth at Bulldog Classic
March 16, 2010
The Cougars posted a final round score of 311 to finish at 928 on the 7,105-yard, par-72 course at Squire Creek Country Club. "We really struggled in every aspect, and we are not getting off to good starts," a frustrated Houston first-year head coach Jonathan Dismuke said following the final round. "We have to get a lot better, and there is plenty of room for improvement." Junior Clark Mitzner was the Cougars' steadiest performer at the tournament and posted a final-round 75 to finish at 225 and tie for 11th place. Other Cougars in action were senior Jackie Lindsey (237, t-54th), juniors Matt Eschenburg (237, t-54th) and Justin Kaplan (237, t-54th) and freshman Jordan Rumora (239, t-65th). Kaplan made his Cougar debut at the event after transferring from Minnesota during the semester break. Southeastern Louisiana posted the best team score of the day with a 292 to finish at 800, one stroke ahead of Mississippi. Host Louisiana Tech finished third at 900, while Oklahoma (903) and New Orleans (906) completed the top-five teams. Southeastern Louisiana's Cedric Scott earned medalist honors with a score of 4-under-par 212. He was the only player to break par in the 54-hole event, finishing four strokes better than Kansas' Nate Barbee and Mississippi's Jonathan Randolph.
