Golf team finishes in 18th place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Houston golf team finished in 18th place Tuesday after the final 18 holes of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the Austin Country Club.

The Cougars posted a team score of 302 in the final round on the 6,906-yard, par 72 course to finish the tournament with a score of 894. Oklahoma State took top team honors with a total of 842, while the Cowboys' Hunter Mahan captured medallist honors at 14-under-par 202.

Leading the Cougars was freshman Kevin Newman, who finished the event at 5-over-par 221 to tie for 46th place.

Other Cougar golfers were John Wine (T-49th, 222), Brett Callas (T-63rd, 226) and Zach Mowbray and Denton Walker (both T-75th, 229).

Texas, UNLV, TCU and Arizona State rounded out the top five team leaders.

The Cougars do not return to action until March 30-April 1 when they participate in the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Arizona at the Tucson National Country Club.
