Golf in 17th Place at Hall of Fame Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team stood in 17th place after the first day of the Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday at Redstone Golf Club in Houston. UH fired a team score of 304 on the 7,070-yard, par-72 course during the first round, 27 strokes behind first-round leader Arizona. Arkansas, host Texas, TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, UNLV, England, Francis Marion and Arizona State rounded out the Top 10 team leaders. The tournament continues at 8 a.m. Saturday with the second round before wrapping up on Sunday. Individually, sophomore co-captain Zach Mowbray led the Cougars during the first day after shooting a 2-over-par 74. Other Cougars in action were: Ricky Romano (t-71, 76); Daniel Angenscheidt (t-76, 77); Kevin Newman (t-76, 77); Denton Walker (t-76, 77) and Jordan Hasbrouck (t-87, 79). Arizona's Chris Nallen grabbed the first-round lead after shooting a 6-under-par 66 through the first 18 holes. TCU's Stephen was one stroke back at 67, and Colin Floyd (Francis Marion), Rusty Kennedy (Texas) and Adam Meyer (TCU) were tied for third after shooting a 68.
