Golf Slips to 13th Place at Hall of Fame Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston dropped to 13th place after firing a team score of 296 on Saturday during the second round of the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club. The Cougars posted a 36-hole total of 596 to stand 34 strokes behind second-day team leader Oklahoma State which fired a tournament-best 270 in the second round. UNLV was a close second at 563, while TCU (574), New Mexico (574) and Texas (580) rounded out the top five team leaders. Individually, freshman Jordan Irwin led the Cougars for the second straight day after shooting a 1-over-par 73. The Calgary, Alberta, native, who recently won medallist honors at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, stood at 1-over-par 145 to stand in a tie for 23rd. Sophomore Pablo Acuna equaled Irwin's 73 on the golf course Friday and was tied for 40th place at 4-over-par 148 after 36 holes. Other Cougars in action were Ricky Romano (76-75 - 151, t-60th), junior Kevin Newman (77-75 - 152, t-67th) and junior Zach Mowbray (81-75 - 156, t-83rd). UNLV's Ryan Moore stood atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under-par 138 to stand a stroke ahead of Oklahoma State teammates Pablo Martin and Zach Robinson. Fellow Cowboy Tyler Leon was a big story on Saturday as well as he bounced back from a opening-round 76 to shoot 64 on Saturday. The tournament wraps up at 7:30 a.m., Sunday with the final round.
