Golf Moves into 16th Place at Hall of Fame Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team stood in 16th place after the second day of the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club on Saturday. The tournament wraps up at 8 a.m., Sunday with the final round. The Cougars fired a team score of 295 to stand in 16th place with a two-day score of 604. UH improved nine strokes from its first-day score with Saturday's round. Host Texas grabbed the team lead at 560 after firing 277 on Saturday. Arizona was one stroke back with Oklahoma State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, England, Texas A&M, Arizona State, TCU and Arkansas rounding out the Top 10. For the second consecutive day, sophomore co-captain Zach Mowbray was the Cougars' leading player. The Mesa, Ariz., native fired a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday and stood in a tie for 27th place at even-par 144 through 36 holes. Mowbray was the only Cougar who shot even-par or better during the second round. Other Cougars in action were: Denton Walker (t-67, 77-74 -- 151); Ricky Romano (t-72, 76-76 -- 152); Jordan Hasbrouck (t-78, 79-75 -- 154); Kevin Newman (86, 77-80 -- 157) and Daniel Angenscheidt (t-88, 77-82 -- 159).
