HOUSTON - The University of Houston golf team finished in a tie for 16th place after the final round Sunday at the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club.

The Cougars, fired a team score of 308 on the par-72, 7,538-yard course, to record a 54-hole total of 40-over-par 904 and tie with Penn State. UH finished 58 strokes behind Oklahoma State. UNLV (848), New Mexico (865), Texas A&M (878), TCU (879), Arizona (879), Purdue (880), Kentucky (881), Texas (881), South Carolina-Aiken (881) and Oklahoma (881) rounded out the Top 10 team leaders.

Individually, sophomore Pablo Acuna fired a 1-over-par 72 for the second straight day to finish at 5-over-par 221 and tie for 29th in the tournament. He was the leading Cougar at the tournament.

Sophomore Ricky Romano and freshman Ricky Romano tied for 57th place at 10-over-par 226. Other Cougars in action were junior Kevin Newman (232, t-80th) and junior Zach Mowbray (236, t-93rd).

UNLV's Ryan Moore captured medallist honors after finishing the three-day event at 10-under-par 206. Oklahoma State's Ryan Moore, who shot a tournament-record 64 on Saturday, finished second at 207, while UNLV's Andres Gonzales placed third at 208

The Cougars continue a busy month with their fourth tournament in March at the Border Olympics, hosted by Texas A&M, on March 25-26 at Laredo Country Club.
