TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Houston golf team stood in 14th place Sunday after the first day of the National Invitational Tournament at Omni Tucson National Golf Club.

The final 18 holes begins at 8:30 a.m. (CDT), Monday on the 7,094-yard, par-72 course. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.

After shooting a 301 in the morning round, the Cougars bettered their score by six strokes in the afternoon session for a 36-hole total of 596 at the end of the first day. New Mexico held the overall team lead at 560 with UNLV in second at 563. Arizona (568), TCU (568), Kent State (572), Texas (575), California (576), Baylor (581), Colorado State (581) and Arizona "B" (581) rounded out the top-10 team leaders.

Senior captain Ben Moser fired a 71 in the second round Sunday and was in a tie for 16th place at 1-under-par 143. Other Cougars in action were sophomore Matt Eschenburg (149, t-58th), junior Beau Davis (150-, t-60th), senior captain Brady Shivers (155, t-77th) and junior Jackie Lindsey (156, t-79th).

Individually, Philip Bagdade of Arizona's "B" team and New Mexico's Nick Geyer stood atop the leaderboard at 7-under-par 137. TCU's James Sacheck stood in third at 139, while Kent State's Brett Cairns, TCU's Johan de Beer and Alexander Knappe and Arizona's Jonathan Khan were tied for fourth at 140.
