LAKE CHARLES, La. -- University of Houston sophomores Tony Gil and Pryce Beshoory stood in a tie for 12th with a score of 144 following the first day at the McNeese Lake Charles Invitational on Monday evening.

Competing on the 6,869-yard, par-72 course at The Country Club at The Golden Nugget, Beshoory opened the tournament with a 2-under-70 in the morning round. Starting on No. 13, the Pearland, Texas, enjoyed four birdies in a five-hole stretch and closed out the First Round with two birdies on his final three holes.

Gil used a 71 in his afternoon round to join Beshoory in the tie for 12th. The Vaughan, Ontario, native sank five birdies in the Second Round with two on his final four holes.

Redshirt freshman Andrew Gibson was tied for 17th at 146, while junior Sam Elkington was tied for 42nd at 152.

Louisiana held the first-day lead in the team standings with a score of 569, while No. 39 Marquette stood in second at 573. Lamar (575), Stephen F. Austin (577) and Texas State (578) rounded out the Top-5 leaders.

Individually, Louisiana's Jack Tolson stood in first at 11-under 133, two strokes ahead of Texas State's Logan Davis. Lamar's Cody Branch was in third at 138 with Hunter Eichhorn (Marquette), Bjorn Gudjonsson (Louisiana) and Jake Hendrix (Stephen F. Austin) tied for fourth at 144.

The Final Round begins with a 8 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.

FINAL ROUND on TUESDAY
For Tuesday's Final Round, Gil will begin the day for the Cougars off No. 13 with Beshoory (No. 14), Gibson (No. 15) and Elkington (No. 18 following).
UP NEXT
Following the McNeese Lake Charles Invitational, the Cougars will travel to compete at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., on April 1-2.


From there, Houston will compete in its regular-season finale at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 7-8.
