TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Houston fired its best team round of the tournament Tuesday, but it would not be enough as the Cougars finished 13th at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.

After shooting more than 300 in each of the first two rounds, the Cougars rebounded to shoot 296 during the final 18 holes at the 7,094-yard, par-72 course at the Tucson National Country Club.

Senior John Wine rallied to shoot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round and finished in a tie for 20th place at 4-over-par 222.

Other Cougar linksters were Simon Robinson (t-33rd, 225), Brett Callas (t-49th, 229), Kevin Newman (t-54th, 230) and Zach Mowbray (t-71st, 238).

Host Arizona walked away with the team championship with a three-day score of 870, four strokes ahead of New Mexico. Conference USA member TCU, Texas and Arizona State rounded out the top five team leaders.

Individually, Alejandro Canizares of Arizona State captured medallist honors with a three-round score of 4-under-par 212. Ricky Barnes (Arizona), David Inglis (Tulsa) and Michael Litzig (New Mexico) tied for second at 2-under-par 212.

The Cougars return to Arizona in a few weeks to compete at the Savane/Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on April 23-23 in UH's final tune-up before the Conference USA Championships.
