AUGUSTA, Ga. - The University of Houston golf team posted a team score of 298 in the final round Sunday morning to finish 15th at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational.
Senior captain Ben Moser fired a 4-under-par 68 in the final round to move into a tie for 43rd place and lead the Cougars with a score of 217. Other Cougars in action were Matt Eschenburg (219, t-56th), junior Jackie Lindsey (220, t-60th), sophomore Clark Mitzner (226, t-81st) and senior captain Brady Shivers (229, t-84th).
Host Augusta State fired a team score of 277 on Sunday to capture the team championship and finish 13 strokes ahead of Chattanooga.
Kent State (843), UCF (849), Coastal Carolina (849), Duke (853), Tennessee (859), Georgia State (860), Virginia State (862) and South Carolina-Aiken (864) rounded out the top-10 team leaders.
Augusta State's Taylor Floyd posted a 67 in his second straight round to earn medalist honors at 14-under-par 202. Chattanooga's Derek Rende finished second at 206, while five players tied at 208.
The Cougars return to action Friday when they compete at the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C. It will be the team's final regular-season tournament before taking part at the 2009 Conference USA Championship on April 19-21 in Orlando.
