BRYAN, Texas – The University of Houston Men’s Golf team finished sixth at the Aggie Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Traditions Club.
Competing on the 7,088-yard, par-72 layout, the Cougars completed the Second Round on Sunday morning after darkness suspended the first day of play. Houston recorded a 297 in the Second Round and enjoyed their low round of the tournament – 296 – in Sunday’s Final Round.
Senior Michael Perras fired a 72 in the Final Round on Sunday and tied for seventh at 216 to lead the Cougars. The Deer Park, Texas, native birdied two of his first three holes and added three birdies in a 5-hole stretch midway through his second nine for his team-leading fifth Top-10 finish of the season.
Senior Matt Williams tied for 19th at 223.
No. 1 Oklahoma State posted the low round of the day at 11-under 277 in the Final Round and captured the team championship with a 54-hole score of 869. No. 31 Kent State finished second at 876, while No. 12 LSU and No. 2 Texas A&M tied for third at 882. No. 8 Alabama finished fifth at 883 with No. 10 Baylor (896), No. 16 Arkansas (898), Michigan (900) and No. 6 Texas Tech (911) rounding out the Top-10 leaders.
Texas A&M teammates Chandler Phillips and Walker Lee shared medalist honors at 5-under 211. Oklahoma State’s Viktor Hovland and Kent State’s Ian Holt tied for third at 212, while Michigan’s Kyle Mueller tied for fifth at 213.
Following the Aggie Invitational, the Cougars takes their first step into the postseason when they tees off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Perras looks to defend his American Athletic Conference Championships individual title from a year ago. With that championship, he became the first Cougar in program history to win NCAA Regional and conference championships titles during his career.
