Golf Tied for 11th after First Day of the River Landing Intercollegiate

The University of Houston golf team stood in a tie for 11th-place after the first day of The River Landing Intercollegiate. Senior Jordan Irwin fired a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Cougars and tie for ninth after the first day on the 6,942-yard, par-72 River Course. Other Cougars in action were Steven Frazier (74, t-32nd), Brady Shivers (75, t-39th), Ben Moser (79, t-74th) and Jackie Lindsey (80, t-78th). Florida State and Duke stood atop the team leaderboard after each fired a team score of 284. Maryland finished third at 286, while Wake Forest was fourth at 287. NC State (288), Memphis (292), East Carolina (294), Tulsa (296), North Carolina (297) and Virginia (298) rounded out the Top-10 team leaders. Individually, North Carolina's Kevin O'Connell and Wake Forest's Web Simpson tied for first after shooting a 5-under-par 67. Florida State's Jonas Blixt and Duke teammates Clark Klaasen and Michael Schachner tied for third at 68. The tournament resumes at 7 a.m. (CDT) Saturday on the first and 10th tees and wraps up at 7 a.m. (CDT), Sunday. Live scoring and results are available at GolfStat.com. This weekend's tournament marks the Cougars' final regular-season event. Houston will compete at the Conference USA Championship on April 20-22 in Texarkana, Texas, at the Texarkana Country Club.
