HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The 10th-ranked University of Houston Men's Golf team will have to wait a little longer to make its first appearance at the NCAA Championships in 13 years.
Inclement weather throughout Friday's First Round at Prairie Dunes Country Club delayed the Cougars' first tee time until Saturday morning. Houston was originally scheduled to tee off at 1:30 p.m., Friday, but joined 14 other teams in never reaching their initial tee boxes after more than eight hours of weather delays.
Half of the 30-team field teed off Friday morning, but none were able to finish their initial 18 holes. No. 13 Texas, No. 17 Florida State and No. 20 Texas A&M competed in the most holes Friday with one member of their 5-man starting lineup reaching the 11th hole.
Play was suspended around 6:45 p.m., Friday, after steady rain made the 6,941-yard, par-70 course unplayable. The morning groups will resume their round sat 7 a.m., Saturday.
Houston is scheduled to tee off around 10:40 a.m., Saturday. However, Saturday's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of rain with scattered thunderstorms.
