DENTON, Texas - The University of Houston golf team stood in 11th place after the first day of the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic during the team's season-opening tournament.

The Cougars posted a team score of 606 after shooting rounds of 304 and 302. UALR stood atop the team leaderboard at 1-under-par 575 and was followed by Sam Houston State (579), North Texas (583), Louisiana-Lafayette (586) and Stephen F. Austin (586).

Individually, UALR's Dylan Raines and Scott Kelly of Sam Houston State were tied for first at 4-under-par 140. UTSA's Kyle Collins stood in third place at 141, while Louisiana-Lafayette's Devin Carrey and UALR's Linus Gillgren.

For the Cougars, junior Jackie Lindsey fired an opening round of 73 and followed that with a 74 in the afternoon session to tie for 20th place at 147. Ben Moser was tied for 24th at 148, while Brady Shivers and Clark Mitzner were tied for 54th at 158.

Beau Davis was tied for 57th at 158, while Matt Eschenburg stood in 65th place after shooting 163.

Mitzner, Davis and Eschenburg each are competing in their first tournaments as Cougars.

The tournament wraps up with the final 18 holes, beginning at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday.

This week's tournament is the first of four fall events in which the Cougars will compete. The Cougars will take part in the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 15-16.
