SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - University of Houston junior Roman Robledo opened the 2013-14 season in impressive fashion Sunday with a 1-stroke victory at the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms.

Although he fired a 1-over-par 73 in the final round, the Harlingen, Texas, native finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a score of 211 to finish one stroke ahead of UCF's Greg Eason and two shots in front of Liberty's Chase Marinell.

It was Robledo's second tournament victory in his last three outings. The junior captured the 2013 Conference USA Championships in late April at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.

As a team, the Cougars slipped to third in the final team standings at 869 after posting a score of 297 in the final round. UCF fired a 5-under-par 283 Sunday to take the team title at 866, while Virginia finished second with a score of 867.

Sophomore Blair Hamilton moved into eighth place with a score of 216 after shooting a final-round 71. Senior Curtis Reed tied for 12th at 218, while senior Wesley McClain tied for 29th at 224. Sophomore Vincent Martino tied for 55th at 231, and freshman Matt Scobie finished 84th with a score of 247.

Following the Cougars, Liberty (871), Kentucky (883), Ball State (891), Ohio State (895), Indiana (899), North Texas (902), UT Arlington (905) and Louisville (905) rounded out the top-11 team leaders.
