Senior Jordan Irwin opened the 2007-08 season with a 15th-place finish at the St. Mary's Invitational.

Pebble Beach, Calif. - University of Houston senior golfer Jordan Irwin fired a five-over par score 221 to finish in a seven-way tie for 15th place at the St. Mary's Invitational. Irwin shot a four-over par 76 in the third and final round on the Par 72-6,857-yard Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Houston also finished in 15th place as a team as junior transfer Ben Moser finished the tournament at 14 over par score of 230 after posting Houston's best score in the final round with a three-over par 75. Steven Frazier and Jackie Lindsey finished the tournament with a 236 score, and junior college transfer Brady Shivers shot a three-round total of 237.
Baylor won the team title and the individual champion was Baylor's Wesley Williams after he posted a three-round combined score of two-under-par score of 214. Williams edged Ian Rochester of Memphis by one stroke, while Eastern Michigan's Graham Hill, St. Mary's Chadd Cocco and UAB's Brad Smith tied for third place after shooting even par throughout the tournament.
This was the first of four tournaments for the Cougars this fall. Houston travels to the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 17-18, the Duke Coca Cola Classic on October 7-8 and the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Long Beach, Calif. On Oct. 24-25.
