Golf in Fourth at Mean Green Classic

FLOWER MOUND, Texas - The University of Houston golf team stood in fourth place after the first day of the Mean Green Classic in Flower Mound, Texas. The Cougars, opening their 2003-04 season, fired a 293 in Tuesday morning's opening round on the 7,135-yard, par-72 course at Lantana Golf Club and improved that score by five strokes in the afternoon session. UH posted a 36-hole score of 581 to stand 13 strokes behind host North Texas. The tournament concludes Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes. McNeese State stood in second place at 577, while Texas State-San Marcos was third with a team score of 580. Playing in his first tournament as a Cougar, junior transfer Jordan Hasbrouck fired a 68 in the afternoon round and was tied for third at 3-under-par 141. Senior Denton Walker, the only senior on the Cougar team, fired 72s in back-to-back round to tie for 14th at even-par 144. Freshman Ricky Romano was tied for 21st at 1-over-par 145. Sophomore Zach Mowbray stood in a tie for 53rd place at 9-over par 151, while junior Daniel Angenscheidt tied for 89th at 24-over-par 166. Playing as an individual, redshirt freshman Pablo Acuna was in a tie for 69th at 10-over-par 154. McNeese State's Adrien Monk and Western Kentucky's Brandon Weaver stood atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under-par 140.
