Cougar Golf Team Finishes Fourth At The Kansas Invitational

Lawrence, Kan. - Jordan Irwin shot a two-under par 70 and Ricky Romano shot a one-under par 71 to lead the University of Houston men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Kansas Invitational.

Irwin finished the tournament in second place with a three-round five-under-par score of 211. Romano shot even par through the three rounds with a score of 216 and tied Tyler Dooling of Kansas for fourth place. Gary Woodland of Kansas was the individual medalist with a nine-under par score of 207. Illinois State's Matt Miller finished in third place at three-under-par, 213.

Pablo Acuna had a score of 81 in the final round to finish in 39th place at 12 over par (228). Todd Bissenden tied for 68th place with a three-day total of 235 and Rian Butler finished tied for 71st with a score of 2.

Kansas won the team championship for the third straight year at the Alvamar Golf Club with a three day total of 862, Iowa State and Nebraska finished in a tie for second place with three-day team totals of 882, while Houston finished five shots back and Illinois State rounded out the top five out of 16 teams with an 894 team score.

Houston will be off until October 8-9 when the Cougars travel to Durham, N.C. and play in the Coca Cola Duke Golf Classic.
