MONTGOMERY, Texas - Four members of the University of Houston Men's Golf team stood among the top-25 leaders following the first day at the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday evening.
Making his season debut, senior Bryn Flanagan stood in a tie for 13th at 142 after posting back-to-back, even-par 71s on the 7,002-yard layout at Woodforest Golf Club.
Senior Wesley McClain and freshman Matt Scobie were tied for 17th at 143, each firing a 1-under-par 70 in the morning round. Redshirt freshman Emmett Oh, who made his collegiate debut, was tied for 21st at 144, thanks to a 70 in the afternoon session.
Louisiana-Monroe's Charlie Macneal and UALR's Nick Zimmerman were tied for the individual lead at 6-under-par 136. ULM teammates Greg Smail and Mason Seaborn and Houston Baptist's Preston Stanley were tied for third at 138.
ULM finished the first day with a score of 13-under-par 555, four strokes ahead of UALR. Houston Baptist (563), McNeese State (569), Stephen F. Austin (578) and Florida Atlantic (578) rounded out the top-six team leaders.
While not competing as a team, the Cougars would have finished the first day in fifth place with a score of 572 with their four-man total.
Following the HBU Husky Invitational, the Cougars wrap up their fall season when they compete at the David Toms Intercollegiate, hosted by LSU at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La. It will be the team's fourth and final event of the fall.
