GOLF, Ill. - The University of Houston golf team finished in ninth place Tuesday after the final 18 holes of the Windon Memorial Classic in Golf, Ill.

The Cougars posted a team score of 297 on the 6,742-yard, par-72 course at Glen View Golf Club to finish with a 54-hole total of 895, 31 strokes behind Northwestern, which set a new tournament team record of 848.

Freshman Zach Mowbray, competing in his first collegiate tournament, bounced back Tuesday to shoot a 1-under-par 71 and finished the event at 9-over-par 225 for 31st place. Mowbray was not alone in that position, as teammates Brett Callas and Simon Robinson fired a similar score.

Other Cougar golfers were Chris Cureton (35th, 226) and John Wine (t-43rd, 229).

Individually, Northwestern's Tom Johnson shot a tournament single-round record 66 in the final round to walk away with the individual championship and set a new tournament record with a score of 206.

Duke, Stanford, Georgia Southern and North Florida rounded out the top five team leaders.

The Cougars will now take a three-week break from competitive play before returning to action October 21-22 at the Duke Classic.
