Cougar Golf Team Finishes In 12th Place At Coca-Cola Duke Classic

Durham, N.C. - The University of Houston men's golf team scored an eight-over par score of 296 in the third round, and climbed up one spot in the team standings to finish in 12th place at the Coca-Cola Duke Classic Monday afternoon. Ricky Romano led Houston's efforts as he shot one-under par 71, while Pablo Acuna and Jordan Irwin each shot a one-over par 73 in the third and final round. Acuna was Houston's most consistent player throughout the tournament as he finished two-over par throughout the three rounds to tie for 15th place with a score of 218. Romano tied for 46th place after he finished the tournament with a three-round total of 226. Irwin shot one-over for the second consecutive day after opening the tournament with a round he would like to forget, an 11-over-par score of 83 in the first round. He ended the tournament tied for 57th place with a three day total of 229. Houston's fourth player was freshman Jackie Lindsey, who was playing in the first tournament of his career. Lindsey finished the three rounds with a total of 236 after shooting 10 over par score of 82 in the third round after shooting a five-over-par 77 in each of the first two rounds. Playing unattached for the Cougars was Steven Frazier, who tied for 72nd place with a three day total of 234. Frazier shot seven over par in the third round after shooting five over in the first round and six over in the second. Houston closes out its 2006 Fall Schedule on October 23-24 when the Cougars travel to the Pepperdine Golf Club Intercollegiate Tournament.
