Golf in 12th Place at Club Glove Intercollegiate

SOMIS, Calif. - The University of Houston golf team stood in 12th place Monday after the first two rounds of the Club Glove Intercollegiate at Saticoy Country Club. The Cougars struggled through the first 36 holes, shooting a team score of 306 in the first round and followed that with a score of 300 in the afternoon session. UH stood 33 strokes behind host Pepperdine on the 6,858-yard, par-72 course. Arizona State (576), SMU (579), Coastal Carolina (579), UC Irvine (580), Texas-El Paso (590), Texas Tech (591), UC Riverside (594), Kent State (594) and Baylor (595) rounded out the Top 10 team leaders. Pepperdine's Michael Putnam stood atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under-par 137 after firing back-to-back sub-par rounds to open the tournament. He stood three strokes ahead of Alejandro Canizares (Arizona State), Scott Abbott (SMU) and Jay Choe (UC Irvine). Individually, freshman Jordan Irwin fired an even-par 72 in the afternoon round and stood in a tie for 29th place at 4-over-par 148 to lead the Cougars. Other Cougars in action were Pablo Acuna (77-75 - 152, t-43rd), Ricky Romano (76-76 - 152, t-43rd), Zach Mowbray (77-77 - 154, t-50th) and Jordan Hasbrouck (80-79 - 159, t-56th). The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday morning.
