Men's Golf Team Tied For First Place Through The First Two Rounds At Del Walker Intercollegiate Tournament

Long Beach, Calif. - The University of Houston men's golf team looks to win its second tournament of the season after the Cougars shot a one-under par score of 559 and enters Friday's third round tied for first place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.

After posting a two-over par score of 282 in the first round, the Cougars came back to fire a three-under-par 277 in the second round Thursday afternoon on the par 70- 6,633-yard carouse at the Virginia Country Club.

Houston enters the final round tied for first place with Pacific, who shot a 5-under-par score of 275 in the second round after beginning the tournament at 4 over.

Jordan Irwin is Houston top individual player at the tournament as he enters the final round tied for sixth place at 1-under par after he shot an even par score 70 in the first round and 1-under in the second round.

Steven Frazier, Brady Shivers and Jackie Lindsey are tied for 11th place with even-par scores of 140, while Ben Moser is tied for 46th place with a 7-over-par score of 147.

Frazier had the best single round score of his career when he shot a 68 in the second round a 68 in the second round after beginning the tournament with 2-over par 72 in the opening round.

Shivers, a junior college transfer from Midland, posted the best single round score at UH in the first round with a 1-under-par score of 69 before he fired a 1-over-par 71 in the second.

Lindsey ended the first day with a 1-under-par 69 in the second round after opening the tournament at 1-over-par.

 

 

Ben Moser enters the final round tied for 46th place after he finished the first day at 7-over-par.

Colorado State is in third place in the team standings after shooting an even-par-score of 560 in the first two rounds, while San Jose State and UC-Irvine are tied for fourth at one-over. The host school, Long Beach State, is tied with Saint Mary's for sixth place at seven-over-par, and UTSA is in eighth place at eight over.

San Jose State's Stephen Stallworth is the individual leader with a 4-under-par score of 136. Arizona's Robert Galletti and Alex Johnson of Pacific are tied for second place at 3-under-par. John Chin of UC-Irvine and Saint Mary's Joshua Kelley are tied for fourth place with a score of 2-under-par.
