SAN JOSE del CABO, Mexico – The University of Houston Men’s Golf program continues its spring season when it competes against one of the nation’s top fields during the Querencia Cabo Collegiate at Querencia Golf Club on Sunday morning.
Teams will play 18 holes each day beginning Sunday morning and through Tuesday on the 6,928-yard, par-72 course.

Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars’ starting lineup will feature seniors Papito Gonzalez and 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships medalist Michael Perras, junior Matt Williams and sophomores George Gardner and Pryce Beshoory.
Sophomore Zach Tracy will compete as an individual.
Perras leads the Cougars this season with a 70.68 scoring average and 13 rounds of par or better. Gardner stands second on the team with a 71.73 average. Williams is a close third with a 71.81 average but ranks second among the Cougars with 12 rounds of par or better.
The Cougars will compete as part of a 15-team field, which features 10 of the nation’s top-25 programs and 13 of the top 50.
Houston will face No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Baylor, No. 12 California, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 15 Texas, No. 17 Stanford, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 20 Florida State, No. 24 USF, No. 27 Arizona State, No. 44 Mississippi, No. 49 Duke and Rice.

In the Cougars’ last competition, Beshoory fired three straight rounds in the 60s on the way to a score of 12-under-204 win capture medalist honors at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational at Augusta Pines Golf Club on Feb. 27.
It was the first title of his career.
In the Cougars’ last team competition, Houston finished with a score of 357 to defeat Minnesota in one round of stroke play on Feb. 24 at Augusta Pines Golf Club. Williams fired a 68 to lead all players.
In their last 54-hole event, the Cougars finished fifth with a score of 15-under 849 during their own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 16-18 at Golf Club of Houston. Gonzalez tied for 14th with a score of 4-under 211 to lead the Cougars.
Following the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, Houston will play host to the Border Olympics on March 9-10 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
From there, the team will host the Valspar Collegiate Championships on March 18-20 at Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
