HOUSTON - A day after finishing second and leading his team to a third-place finish, University of Houston junior Curtis Reed was honored Wednesday as the Conference USA Golfer of the Week.
The Castroville, Texas, native collected the first weekly award of his career after finishing second with a score of 4-under-par 212 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La., earlier this week.
Reed was a steady performer for the Cougars throughout the tournament. After posting back-to-back 72s on Monday to open the event, he earned his best career finish, thanks to a sparkling 68 in the final round Tuesday.
He started the final round with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole and added and eagle four holes later on the par-5 11th hole. Reed went on to drain two more birdies in the round before his lone bogey of the day on his final hole of the tournament.
Reed helped lead the Cougars to a third-place showing at the Louisiana Classics, the program's sixth straight top-three finish to open the 2012-13 campaign.
Reed and his Cougar teammates return to action when they compete at the Auburn Intercollegiate starting Monday at Grand National Golf Club in Auburn, Ala.
