Golf Adds Redstone Challenge to Spring Schedule

LAREDO, Texas --The University of Houston golf team returns to action this weekend, hosting the 2009 Border Olympics golf tournament in Laredo, Texas. The 54-hole tournament will be played on a 7,241-yard, par 72 course at the Laredo Country Club.

The two-day tournament gets under way with 36 holes on Friday before wrapping up with the final 18 on Saturday morning.

The Cougars will welcome a 16-team field at the tournament, including last year's tournament champion, Arkansas. Rounding out the rest of the field are Vanderbilt, Louisville, Baylor, Notre Dame, New Orleans, Arkansas-Little Rock, Lamar, North Texas, Rice, Texas State, UT-Arlington, New Mexico State, Washington State and HBU.

Houston enters the event coming off a fifth-place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate Tournament on Feb. 23-24.

Senior captain Ben Moser led all Cougars with a second-place finish after firing back-to-back 3-under-par 69s in the final two rounds. Moser also leads the Cougars with a 72.1 scoring average this season.

Junior Beau Davis fired a pair of 1-over-par 73s during the first two rounds at Cypresswood Golf Club to finish in a tie for 28th. Davis ranks fifth on the team with a 76.3 scoring average.

Junior Jackie Lindsey ranks second on the team with a 75.4 scoring average, while freshman Eric Adler stands third in the team rankings with a 75.6 scoring average.

Other Cougars expected to play are senior Brady Shivers, sophomore Clark Mitzner and sophomore Matt Eschenburg.
