AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The University of Houston Men's Golf program returns to action this weekend as it competes at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club, beginning Saturday morning.

Teams will play 36 holes beginning with a 7:30 a.m. (CDT), shotgun start on the 7,005-yard, par-72 course. The Final Round tees off with a 7:30 a.m. (CDT), split-tee start Sunday.

This marks the 10th straight season in which the Cougars have competed at this tournament, and it remains a favorite among the Houston coaches and student-athletes.

With the completion of play Sunday afternoon, the Cougars will take a late flight back to Houston on Monday. To kill the time before their Monday night flight, the team will head to Augusta National Golf Club to watch the practice rounds before The Masters, which begins Thursday

Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented this weekend by senior Michael Perras, sophomores Zach Tracy and George Gardner, junior Matt Williams and freshman Alexander Frances.

This season, Perras leads the Cougars with a 70.72 average and 18 rounds of par or better. Frances stands third on the squad with a 72.47 average, while Williams has posted 13 rounds of par or better.

The Cougars will compete in a field, which features No. 15 Illinois, No. 21 UCLA, No. 25 Wake Forest, No. 37 South Carolina, No. 39 Marquette, USC-Aiken, which is ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Navy, New Mexico, Tennessee, UCF, Virginia Tech and host Augusta.
For Saturday's play, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Tennessee and Marquette. Tracy will begin the day in the first group off No. 9 with Perras (second group off No. 9), Williams (first group off No. 10), Gardner (second group off No. 10) and Frances (No. 11) following.
In the Cougars' last action, sophomore Pryce Beshoory fired a Final-Round 69 to finish in a tie for seventh with a score of 3-under 213 at the McNeese Lake Charles Invitational on Tuesday.

In the most recent team action, Houston tied for 10th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational against a field, which featured 13 of the nation's Top-50 programs. Perras led the way, tying for 13th at even-par 213.

Last season, Perras posted a score of 7-under 209 -- thanks to a Second Round 66 -- to finish seventh at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 1-2, 2017. Williams enjoyed 70s in the First and Final Rounds on the way to a 16th-place finish with a score of 212.

As a team, the Cougars finished seventh with a score of 10-under 854.

Following the 3M Augusta Invitational, the Cougars will compete in their regular-season finale at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 7-8.

From there, Houston takes its first step into the postseason when it tees off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Perras looks to defend his American Athletic Conference Championships individual title from a year ago. With that championship, he became the first Cougar in program history to win NCAA Regional and conference championships titles during his career.
