HOUSTON - University of Houston Men's Golf associate head coach Chris Hill was recognized Tuesday morning as one of eight semifinalists nationally for the Jan Strickand Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Strickland Award is presented to the assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with his student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom

Under the leadership of fourth-year director of golf Jonathan Dismuke, Houston has enjoyed tremendous success throughout the 2012-13 season, and Hill has been a key contributor. The Cougars have posted eight top-five team finishes through nine events to date and entered the top-25 national rankings for the first time since September 2001.

The team rallied in the final round to win the title at the Lone Star Invitational in mid-October and captured the Border Olympics championship in mid-March. It was the first time since 2005-06 that Houston won multiple tournaments in a single season.

"Chris has a lot of pride in what he does. He works extremely hard, does a tremendous job recruiting and has built strong relationships with each of our players. We are fortunate to have someone like him work with our program," Dismuke said. "You can see constant rise and development of our program since he arrived. I would have a hard time arguing that there is someone better."

Hill joined Carter Collins (Georgia Southern), John Handrigan (Florida), David Inglis (Northwestern), Brian Kortan (New Mexico), Ryan Murphy (Texas), Phil Rowe (Stanford), Casey VanDamme (Tennessee) and Daniel Walters (Wake Forest).

The recipient of the Strickland Award earns the opportunity to further his professional development with an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
