HOUSTON – University of Houston senior Michael Perras was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
Perras collected the award after leading the Cougars during the Aggie Invitational last weekend against a field, which featured eight of the nation’s Top-50 programs, including four Top 10.
The Deer Park, Texas, native posted the team’s low score of the tournament with a 70 in the First Round and finished in a tie for seventh at even-par 216. It was his seventh straight Top-20 finish and his third Top-7 showing in the last four tournaments.
This season, Perras leads the Cougars with a 70.81 average and 22 rounds of par or better, including nine in the 60s.
Wednesday’s award was the second weekly honor of his career.
Perras’ honor gave Houston Golf a sweep of the league’s weekly awards. Fellow senior Megan Thothong was honored Wednesday as the league’s Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Perras and the Cougars takes their first step into the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Perras looks to defend his American Athletic Conference Championships individual title from a year ago. With that championship, he became the first Cougar in program history to win NCAA Regional and conference championships titles during his career.
From there, the team will learn its postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show, set to air live on Golf Channel at 4:30 p.m., May 2.
