UH Men's Golf Team Finishes in 14th Place at Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate Tournament

Pablo Acuna shot five-over par 221 to tie for 30th place and lead the University of Houston men's golf team to a 14th-place finish at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate Tournament with a team score of 895. The tournament was played on the par-72, 6,854-yard course at the Devils Ridge Golf Club, and hosted by North Carolina State. Charlotte was the team champion with a team score of 852, while Tulsa finished in second place with a team score of 854, and Duke finished in third place with a score of 862. Vanderbilt and Georgia Southern (870) tied for fourth place, while North Carolina State (871) finished in sixth place. Augusta State shot a score of 873 to finish in seventh place, while Virginia (875) ended the tournament in eighth place, Maryland (882) was ninth and Kent State rounded out the top 10 teams with a score of 883. Virginia Tech was next with an 885 score, North Carolina finished with a score of 886 and UAB fired a score of 890. Tulsa's Mitch Cohlmia was the individual champion with a score of eight-under par (208). Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte was the runner-up with a score of 209 and Vanderbilt's Luke List and Charlotte's Corey Nagy tied for third place with a 210 score. Duke's Michael Schachner and Tulsa's Sam Korbe fired a score of 212 to tie for fifth place, and Vanderbilt's Jon Curran and Matt Mincer of Charlotte fired a score of 213 to tie for seventh place. Georgia Southern's Drew Lethem and North Carolina State's Chase Duncan tied for ninth place with a score of 215. .
Acuna fired an even par score of 72 for Houston's best score in the third round after he opened the tournament with a five-over par score of 149 in the first two rounds on Friday. Jordan Irwin tied for 38th place after he shot a three-over par 75 in the final round. A junior from Calgary, Alberta, Irwin opened the day with a score of three-over-par (147). Senior Ricky Romano had back-to-back rounds of a two-over-par 72 in each of the final two rounds to tie for 55th place. Romano finished the tournament with a score of 225. Sophomore Steven Frazier shot a four-over par 76 in the third round after firing 75 and 79 in the first two rounds. Another sophomore, Todd Bissenden finished the tournament with a score of 239. |
