HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Men's Golf program will learn its NCAA postseason fate on Wednesday afternoon during the NCAA Selection Show.
The Selection Show airs at 5 p.m., Wednesday, as part of Golf Channel's Golf Central and will be streamed live on the Golf Channel web site. Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, Associate Head Coach Ryke Dismuke and the Cougars will watch the show as a team inside the Carl Lewis Auditorium on the first floor of the Athletics/Alumni Center on the UH campus.
Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals will be selected to compete in one of six NCAA Regionals across the nation. The Cougars could be sent to Lonnie Poole Golf Club (Raleigh, N.C.); Traditions Club (Bryan, Texas); Scarlet Course -- Ohio State Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio); Reunion Resort (Kissimmee, Fla.); Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla.) or The Reserve at Spanos Park (Stockton, Calif.)
From the NCAA Regionals, 30 teams and six individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., on May 25-30.
Under Dismuke's leadership, the Cougars have competed in NCAA Regional play for six consecutive seasons making Houston one of only 29 programs to accomplish that feat. The Cougars are looking to compete in their seventh straight NCAA Regional as a team for the first time since 1989-1995.
This season, the Cougars have posted five Top-5 finishes as a team, including a second-place showing at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga., earlier this month.
Senior Michael Perras leads the Cougars with a 70.88 scoring average and 24 rounds of par or better including a 65 in the Final Round at the season-opening The Jackrabbit in September.
After posting a score of 215 at the recent American Athletic Conference Championships, the Deer Park, Texas, native recorded his third straight Top-10 finish at The American Championships. He also moved among into the Cougars' Top-10 career leaders in stroke average (72.12), strokes (10,457) and rounds played (145).
Sophomore Zach Tracy stands second among the Cougars with a 72.87 scoring average and 15 rounds of par or better, while fellow sophomore George Gardner is third with a 73.09 average and 14 rounds of par or better, tying with junior Matt Williams in the latter category.
