Perras Selected for NCAA Bryan Regional

May 2, 2018

HOUSTON – University of Houston senior Michael Perras was selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Bryan Regional.

Perras, who stands at No. 45 in the latest Golfstat individual national rankings, was one of six individuals and 13 teams chosen to play at Traditions Club beginning May 14.

Perras will face student-athletes from No. 1 seed Texas A&M, No. 2 seed Baylor, No. 3 seed Clemson, No. 4 seed Kentucky, No. 5 seed UCLA, No. 6 seed Mississippi, No. 7 seed South Carolina, No. 8 seed San Francisco, No. 9 seed Georgia, No. 10 seed Mississippi State, No. 11 seed UNC Wilmington, No. 12 seed Northern Colorado and No. 13 seed Bradley.

Mitchell Meissner (Rice), Blake Elliott (McNeese), Zander Lozano (UTSA), Mario Carmona (Rice), Hunter Eichhorn (Marquette), Lewis George (Central Arkansas), Jake Brown (Indiana), Matt Murlick (Marquette) and Michael Sass (College of Charleston) also will compete as individuals at the NCAA Bryan Regional.

The Top-5 teams and top individual not from a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., on May 25-30.

This marks the third straight season in which Perras will compete in NCAA Regional play. He will become only the 17th player in program history to compete in 3+ NCAA Regionals during his career.

He captured the NCAA Franklin Regional title in his first appearance in 2016 and eventually became the first player in program history to win both NCAA Regional and conference championships titles during his career.

In 2017-18, Perras leads the Cougars with a 70.88 scoring average and 24 rounds of par or better, including a 65 in the Final Round at the season-opening The Jackrabbit in September.

After posting a score of 215 at the recent American Athletic Conference Championships, the Deer Park, Texas, native recorded his third straight Top-10 finish at The American Championships. He also moved into the Cougars’ Top-10 career leaders in stroke average (72.12), strokes (10,457) and rounds played (145).

This will not be the first time Perras has competed at Traditions Club during the 2017-18 season. In early April, he posted a score of even-par 216, including an opening-round 70, to tie for seventh individually and lead the Cougars to a sixth-place team finish.

Perras will be the first Cougar to compete as an individual in NCAA Regional play since Jordan Irwin played at the NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., in 2007.
