Houston's Jordan Irwin Begins Play At NCAA Division I Men's Golf Central Regional Championship On Thursday

May 16, 2007

Sugar Grove, Ill. - University of Houston junior golfer Jordan Irwin will play his first round at the NCAA Division I Central Regional Championship on Thursday, May 17 at the Rich Harvest Farms Course in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Irwin was an All-Conference USA First Team selection by Conference USA coaches last week, and tied for second place at the C-USA Golf Championship in Texarkana, Texas, on April 29-May 1.

It was the fifth tournament this season in which he has either won medalist honors or finished as the runner-up. Irwin won both the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic and GADO North Texas Classic earlier this year. He also was the runner-up at the Kansas Invitational and Administaff Augusta State Invitational before his second-place showing at the C-USA Championship.

His second-place showing at the C-USA Championship was Houston's best individual finish at the tournament since Brad McIntosh was the 2001 individual medalist.

The Top 10 teams and top two individuals at each of the three regional championships qualify to compete at the NCAA Championships on May 30-June 2 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club's Gold Course in Williamsburg, Va.
