WALTON-ON-THE-HILL, England - University of Houston All-American golfer James Ross will represent his native Scotland as part of Team Europe when the Palmer Cup tees off Thursday morning at Walton Heath Golf Club.

Ross, who is a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, will compete in the annual Ryder Cup-style tournament, featuring the top American and top European collegiate golfers.

Teams will play four-ball matches on Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon with singles matches on Friday and Saturday. For Thursday morning's four-ball competition, Ross will team with fellow Scotsman Jack McDonald against SMU's Bryson Dechambeau and LSU's Stewart Jolly and tee off at 1:30 a.m. (CDT).

Afternoon four-ball matches are scheduled to begin 7:30 a.m. (CDT), Thursday, with pairings to be determined. The Palmer Cup continues with single-match play, beginning at 3 a.m. (CDT), Friday and Saturday.

In 2013-14, Ross finished second among the Cougars with a 72.21 scoring average and added 17 rounds of par or better. He earned PING All-America Honorable Mention honors after tying for third at the NCAA Championships in late May and was named to both the PING All-Central Region and All-American Athletic Conference teams.

In 11 tournaments, he earned eight top-20 finishes, including a second-place showing at the rain-shortened Reunion Intercollegiate and finished the 2013-14 season ranked No. 22 nationally by Golfstat.

This weekend's play won't be the first time that Ross has competed on the international stage this season. In late March, he competed for Team Europe vs. Team Asia/Pacific in Bangalore, India, in an international friendly match for the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy.

Ross helped lead the resurgence of Houston Men's Golf, which rose as high as No. 7 midway through the season and finished at No. 9 in the final Golfstat poll.

The United States holds a 9-7-1 lead in the all-time series after taking a 20.5-9.5 victory over Team Europe at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Del.

Joining Ross on Team Europe are: Arizona State's Jon Rahm (Spain), UCF's Ricardo Gouveia (Portugal), Arizona's Erik Oja (Sweden), Illinois' Thomas Detry (Belgium), Central Arkansas' Pep Angles (Spain), UAB's Paul Dunne (Ireland), San Diego's Grant Forrest (Scotland), Stirling's Jack McDonald (Scotland) and UCLAN Myerscough's Louis Tomlinson (England).

Team USA will be represented by Dechambeau, Jolly, Oklahoma State's Wyndham Clark, California's Brandon Hagy, USC's Rico Hoey, Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia, Alabama's Trey Mullinax, Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans, Alabama's Robby Shelton and Stanford's Cameron Wilson.
