July 25, 2017

HOUSTON – University of Houston Men’s Golf stars Michael Perras and Pryce Beshoory will compete in the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship after qualifying Monday afternoon at Golfcrest Country Club.

Perras posted scores of 70-69 to tie with Broc Haymon for the qualifier’s low score at 3-under 139. Beshoory tied with Chad Sewell for third with a score of 141 but advanced to the nation’s premier amateur event after winning a playoff.

This will be the second time Perras will compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship. He tied for 208th at the 2014 Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club, only a few weeks before beginning his collegiate career with the Cougars.

Beshoory will make his first appearance at the U.S. Amateur Championship.

This marks the fifth consecutive season that Houston Men’s Golf has been represented at the U.S. Amateur Championship. In 2016, four-year lettermen Blair Hamilton and Vincent Martino competed with Hamilton advancing to the Round of 32 in match play.
