    Houston - The University of Houston men's golf team opens its 2006 fall schedule when the Cougars travel to Denton, Texas and play in the University of North Texas Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic on Sept. 11-12. It will be the first of four tournaments in which the Cougars will be playing this fall.

    The Cougars will be competing against teams from North Texas, Washington State, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana-Lafayette, Missouri State, New Orleans, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Texas State, Troy and Western Kentucky.

    Last year, Houston finished in third place out of 14 teams at the Cobb/Ferrell Classic as Ricky Romano finished in seventh place with a three-day score of 218, and Pablo Acuna tied for 16th place with a score of 221.

    This season, Jordan Irwin enters the 2006 fall season as Houston's Number One player after he tied for seventh place at the 2006 Alberta Open and qualifying for the 2006 U.S. Amateur Open last summer.

    Acuna is in the No. Two position after he earned First-Team All-Conference-USA First honors last season with an 11th-place finish at the 2006 C-USA Championships and finished as the runner-up at the Central America Amateur Tournament last summer.

    Romano also returns this season after earning Second-Team All-C-USA honors last season and had Top 10 finishes in six tournaments in 2006.

    Joining them are Todd Bissenden, Steven Frazier and Rian Butler. Bissenden played in two tournaments last season for Houston with his best finish coming at the Battle on the Bend Tournament when he tied for 13th place.

    Frazier played in the Cobb/Ferrell Classic for the Cougars last season and tied for 38th place with a scored of 227. Butler will compete as an individual at this year's tournament and played in the All-American Intercollegiate Tournament for the Cougars last season, finishing in 52nd place.
