HOUSTON - University of Houston junior Roman Robledo was honored Tuesday afternoon as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for September after winning an individual championship and leading the Cougars to three top-three team finishes.
Robledo captured the individual title at the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms earlier this month with a score of 5-under-par 211. It was his second individual championship in a three-tournament stretch after earning Conference USA medalist honors in April, the first title of his collegiate career.
The Harlingen, Texas, native went on to add a pair of top-25 individual finishes during the Golfweek Conference Challenge and the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic.
Robledo has been a key part of the Cougars' tremendous team success this fall. Houston has finished among the top-three leaders in each of the first three events with the team title at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Sept. 23-24.
This is the first weekly or monthly honor for Robledo during his career. However, he has filled his trophy case during his time with the Cougars. He was a two-time member of the C-USA Championships All-Tournament Team and was named to the league's First Team a year ago.
In addition, he was selected as a member of the 2013 PING All-Central Region Team.
Following the HBU Husky Invitational, the Cougars wrap up their fall season when they compete at the David Toms Intercollegiate, hosted by LSU at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La. It will be the team's fourth and final event of the fall.
