Golf Returns to Action at Del Walker Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Houston golf team returns to action Thursday when it competes at the 13th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Classic. The Cougars will compete on the 6,633-yard, par-70 course at Virginia Country Club, joining Arizona "B", Colorado State, Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, North Texas, Pacific, San Jose State, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UTSA, Weber State and host Long Beach State The tournament will be the first competition for the Cougars since the season-opening Mean Green Classic on Sept. 8-9. UH was scheduled to compete at the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 15-16 but was forced to cancel its appearance due to Hurricane Ike. The Cougars tee off at 9:30 a.m. (CDT), Thursday with the afternoon round beginning at 2:30 p.m. (CDT). The two-day, 54-hole event wraps up with the start of the final round at 9:30 a.m. (CDT), Friday. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com. Senior Ben Moser leads the Cougars into the tournament after finishing in a tie for 15th at the Mean Green Classic with a 54-hole total of 221. Jackie Lindsey, Clark Mitzner, Brady Shivers and Beau Davis also are scheduled to compete in their second straight tournaments for the Cougars.
