Golf Returns to Action Sunday at Lone Star Invitational

The 54-hole event begins with at 8 a.m., Sunday, on the 7,247-yard, par-72 course at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. The Cougars will play 36 holes Sunday and wrap up the tournament with the final 18 holes starting Monday morning. The Cougars compete against Baylor, Lamar, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State, UT Arlington, UTEP and host UTSA. "We're excited to have the opportunity to participate in the first Lone Star Invitational," said head coach Jonathan Dismuke, who in his first season at Houston. "It is a great idea to have the best teams in the state of Texas come together to compete against one another on a fine course like Briggs Ranch." Junior Matt Eschenburg, senior Jackie Lindsey and senior Beau Davis each will compete in their third straight tournament to open the fall season. Eschenburg posted a score of 216 at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Oct. 5-6 to tie for fifth place. It was the second straight career-best tournament finish for Eschenburg and helped The Woodlands, Texas, native earn the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, a first in his career. Freshman Jordan Rumora will compete in his second straight tournament after an impressive start to his collegiate career. The Houston native posted a score of 218 with an even-par 70 in the second round on the way to ah 10th-place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Oct. 6.
Junior A.J. Ferries makes his collegiate debut for the Cougars. "I'm looking forward to seeing how we compete against some of the best teams in the state and in the nation," Dismuke said. "I can't wait to see how we do." |
