LAHAINA, MAUI, Hawai’i – The University of Houston Men’s Golf program closes out its fall season when it opens play at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic on Friday morning.

The Cougars will play 18 holes with a 1:30 p.m. (CST) shotgun start each day through Sunday on the 6,700-yard, par-71 Royal Ka’anapali Course at Ka’anapali Golf Club.

Under the leadership of ninth-year head coach Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior and 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships medalist Michael Perras, senior Alan De Bondt, junior Matt Williams, sophomore George Gardner and 2017 All-American Athletic Conference senior performer Papito Gonzalez.

This season, Perras leads the Cougars with a 70.67 average and is tied with Williams for the team lead with seven rounds of par or better.

The Cougars will compete in a 20-team field with three of those among the top 20 in the latest Golfstat national rankings.

The field includes No. 12 LSU, No. 15 California, No. 18 Kent State, No. 34 Wyoming, No. 40 South Carolina, No. 48 Kansas, Air Force, Ball State, Boise State, Bowling Green, Georgia, Gonzaga, Houston, Indiana, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, UConn, West Virginia and host Hawai’i.

In their most recent action, the Cougars finished third at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas on Oct. 23-24. Perras and Gardner opened the tournament with 69s with Perras tying for 26th at 215 to lead the Cougars.
Following the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, the Cougars will take a break before opening the spring season at their own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 16-18, 2018, at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
