University of Houston senior Adam Callahan moved up two places and finished in fifth place in the men's decathlon at the Texas Relays on Thursday afternoon. Callahan scored 2,999 points on Thursday to finish with a total of 6,752 points.

Justin Youngblood of UT-San Antonio won the event with 7,227 points, while Allan Bulick of Texas A&M was second with 7,107 points.

Senior Mike Olague finished ninth in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:50.90 and 12th in the men's 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:47.03. The Lady Cougars finished 11th in the women's 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:21.95.

A pair of freshman also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles finals. Alicia Cave finished second in the first heat and had the fourth-fastest qualifying time overall in the women's 400-meter hurdles with 59.46 seconds.

Andrew Carruthers qualified for the finals of the men's 400-meter hurdles. Carruthers finished second in the third heat with a time of 51.99 seconds. His time was the ninth-fastest overall time in the race.

Senior Greg Christie also was second in his heat with a time of 52.15 seconds, but Christie didn't qualify for the finals. Christie finished with the 11th overall fastest time.

Freshman Krystal Ward provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships and was the second-place finisher in the women's heptathlon at the Texas Relays. Ward finished the second day of competition with 5,286 points, while Dee Brown of Arkansas won the event with 5,542 points. Houston's Briana Bassler finished in ninth place with 4,633 points.
