CHICAGO - The 2001 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place February 23-24 in Houston, Texas. All events for both the men's and the women's championship will be held at the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston. This marks the third time that Houston has served as the host of this event.

Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. central time on Saturday, February 23 and continues into the evening. Competition resumes at 8:00 a.m. central time on Sunday, February 24. Houston's men's indoor track team will be aiming to become the first squad in any Conference USA sport to win five consecutive championships. Last season, the Cougars took first place in eight of the 14 individual events, posting an overall score of 150.00, 36 points ahead of second place Southern Miss.

The women's indoor event was been far more competitive, with four different champions over the last four years. South Florida captured last season's title with a score of 131.00, although Houston, which finished second, had a meet-high five individuals win events. In the latest Trackwire rankings, Tulane is ranked 18th, while Houston is 20th. Results of the meet will be posted on www.c-usasports.com, www.uhcougars.com and at www.cftiming.com at the completion of each day's events.
