Houston Men's and Women's Track Teams To Host Adidas Houston Invitational Friday and Saturday
May 17, 2001 Houston, Texas - The University of Houston men's and women's track and field teams host the Adidas Houston Invitational on May 18-19 at the Carl Lewis/Tom Tellez Track Complex. The Lady Cougars are coming off a second-place finish at the Conference USA Track and Field Championships at Tampa on May 10-12. The UH men's track and field team finished third at the meet. The competitors will include 2000 Olympic Bronze Medalist Vala Flossadottir of Iceland, Alicia Warlick, of the top Americans, and UH All-American Rhian Clarke in the women's pole vault. Other Olympians scheduled to compete are: Charles Austin in the high jump, Merlene Frazier in the sprints, Sandra Glover and Karlene Houghton in the women's 400-meter hurdles, LaMark Carter in the long jump, Floyd Heard in the 100 meters and Dionne Rose-Henry in the 100-meter hurdles. The Adidas Houston Invitational also will serve as a last chance meet for collegians to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The field events starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The running events will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
